Editorial Board Appointment Policy
Editorial Board Appointment Policy
The Journal of Integrated Sciences and Agriculture (JISA) appoints its editors through a rigorous and transparent selection process designed to uphold high standards of scholarly integrity, disciplinary expertise, editorial competence, and alignment with the journal's mission. The following criteria and procedures guide the appointment of members of the Editorial Board:
1. Academic Credentials and Scholarly Standing
Candidates should possess recognized academic qualifications, typically a Ph.D. or equivalent, and demonstrate an established publication record in fields relevant to the journal's scope. Candidates should have recognized expertise, scholarly contributions, editorial experience, or demonstrated leadership in research and academic activities.
2. Relevant Disciplinary Expertise
The Editorial Board is composed to reflect the multidisciplinary breadth and methodological diversity of JISA. The Board should collectively provide appropriate expertise across areas covered by the journal, including agricultural and biological sciences, environmental and earth sciences, engineering and technology, computational and data sciences, health and One Health, economics and social sciences, and other relevant interdisciplinary fields.
This diversity of expertise enables manuscripts to be handled by editors with appropriate knowledge of the subject matter, research methodologies, emerging trends, and interdisciplinary approaches relevant to the journal.
3. Commitment to Editorial Responsibilities
Editors are expected to manage submitted manuscripts in a timely, fair, objective, and ethical manner, ensuring the integrity of the peer-review process. They are responsible for upholding the journal's standards regarding originality, research quality, publication ethics, conflict of interest, confidentiality, and responsible scholarly communication.
Editors may also contribute to the development of the journal through activities such as special issues, scholarly outreach, reviewer development, and engagement with authors and the wider research community.
4. Diversity and Inclusivity
In line with its commitment to promoting global scholarship, JISA seeks to maintain an Editorial Board that reflects diversity across geographic regions, gender, career stages, disciplines, methodologies, and institutional affiliations.
Such diversity supports broader scholarly perspectives, strengthens the journal's international and interdisciplinary character, and promotes appropriate representation of research communities across the fields covered by JISA.
5. Professional Integrity and Collegial Collaboration
All editors are required to adhere to high standards of professional and publication ethics and to follow relevant guidance and best practices established by recognized scholarly organizations, including COPE, DOAJ, and Crossref, where applicable.
Editors must:
- Declare and appropriately manage any actual or potential conflicts of interest.
- Maintain confidentiality throughout the editorial and peer-review process.
- Make editorial decisions objectively and independently of inappropriate commercial, financial, or personal considerations.
- Treat authors and reviewers fairly and professionally.
- Promote research integrity and responsible scholarly communication.
- Work constructively with authors, reviewers, editors, and the publisher to support the quality and development of the journal.
6. Appointment Process
Potential editorial candidates may be identified through nominations by current editors, recommendations from the research community, invitations by the journal, or self-nomination.
Applicants or nominees may be requested to provide a curriculum vitae, publication record, relevant editorial experience, and a brief statement of interest.
The Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with the Managing Editor and relevant senior editorial leadership, evaluates candidates based on their academic credentials, disciplinary expertise, scholarly standing, editorial experience, professional integrity, and commitment to editorial responsibilities.
Appointments are made formally, with clearly defined roles, responsibilities, and terms of service. Editorial appointments are normally made for a defined period and may be renewed upon mutual agreement and satisfactory performance.
The composition of the Editorial Board is publicly available on the journal's website and is reviewed periodically. Editors may be rotated, invited to step down, or replaced where appropriate due to completion of their term, changes in the journal's needs or scope, prolonged inactivity, or other legitimate editorial considerations.
7. Review and Renewal
The Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with the Managing Editor and relevant senior editorial leadership, periodically reviews the composition and performance of the Editorial Board to ensure continued alignment with JISA's aims, scope, and editorial objectives.
New editors may be invited or appointed when additional expertise is required, emerging research areas need stronger representation, geographic or disciplinary diversity needs to be strengthened, or vacancies arise within the Editorial Board.
Editorial appointments and renewals are based on the journal's continuing scholarly and editorial needs and the individual's demonstrated commitment to maintaining the quality, integrity, and development of JISA.
