Author Guidelines

Manuscript Categories

The Journal of Agribusiness and Social Sciences (JASS) welcome a variety of scholarly contributions that advance knowledge in agribusiness, agricultural economics, rural development, and related social science disciplines.

Original Research Articles

Comprehensive empirical or theoretical studies presenting original findings related to agribusiness systems, agricultural markets, rural socio-economic dynamics, or agri-food value chains. These manuscripts should demonstrate methodological rigor and contribute substantively to the literature.
Typical length: 3,500–7,000 words.

Review Articles

Systematic, narrative, or meta-analytical reviews that critically synthesize existing research on a clearly defined topic within agribusiness, agricultural economics, or rural development. These papers should identify research gaps and propose directions for future scholarship.
Maximum length: 8,000 words.

Policy and Practice Insights

Short, evidence-based analyses that translate academic research into practical insights for policymakers, agribusiness practitioners, and development professionals. These articles should highlight implications for policy design, market development, or rural economic strategies.
Length: 1,200–2,500 words.

Short Communications

Concise reports presenting innovative research findings, emerging methodologies, or preliminary results of significant relevance to agribusiness and rural socio-economic research.
Length: 1,000–2,000 words.

Special Issues

Thematic collections of articles addressing emerging or high-priority topics in agribusiness, agricultural markets, rural transformation, or sustainable food systems. These issues are typically coordinated by guest editors in collaboration with the journal’s editorial board.

General Formatting Requirements

Manuscripts submitted to JASS must follow the journal’s formatting standards to ensure clarity and consistency.

  • Manuscripts should be prepared in Microsoft Word or LaTeX format.

  • Use Times New Roman, 12-point font, with double-spaced text and 1-inch margins on all sides.

  • Include continuous line numbering and page numbers throughout the manuscript.

Submissions must be organized into two separate files to ensure anonymity during the double-blind review process:

Title Page File

  • Title of the manuscript

  • Names of all authors

  • Institutional affiliations

  • Corresponding author’s email address

  • Acknowledgments (if applicable)

Main Manuscript File (Anonymous)

  • Title of the manuscript

  • Abstract

  • Keywords

  • Main text

  • References

  • Tables and figures

The main manuscript file must not contain any author-identifying information.

Style and Presentation Guidelines

  • References must follow the APA (7th edition) citation style.

  • Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively and clearly cited within the text.

  • Figures must be submitted in high-resolution format (minimum 300 dpi) as separate files.

  • All measurements and units should follow the International System of Units (SI).

  • Authors should ensure clarity, consistency, and readability throughout the manuscript.

Ethics and Permissions

All submissions must comply with recognized ethical standards in academic research and publishing.

Authors are responsible for:

  • Ensuring that research involving human participants, surveys, interviews, or sensitive socio-economic data complies with institutional ethical guidelines.

  • Obtaining permission to reproduce any copyrighted material, including figures, tables, or images.

  • Providing a clear conflict of interest statement and disclosing all funding sources that supported the research.

Ethical publishing practices follow international guidelines such as those provided by the Committee on Publication Ethics.

Peer Review Process

JASS operates a double-blind peer review process to ensure objectivity and academic rigor.

  1. Initial Screening:

The editorial office conducts a preliminary assessment to verify that the manuscript fits the journal’s scope and meets basic quality standards.

  1. Peer Review:

Suitable manuscripts are sent to at least two independent expert reviewers.

  1. Editorial Decision:

The final decision is based on reviewer evaluations, originality, methodological soundness, and relevance to the journal’s aims and scope.

Authors may receive one of the following decisions:

  • Accept

  • Minor revisions

  • Major revisions

  • Reject

Submission Process

Manuscripts should be submitted through the journal’s online submission system.

JASS operates through the journal management platform Open Journal Systems, which allows authors to manage submissions, track review progress, and communicate with editors.

To submit a manuscript:

  1. Create an author account on the journal’s submission portal.

  2. Enter the required metadata (title, abstract, keywords, author information).

  3. Upload the Title File and Main Manuscript File.

  4. Include a cover letter explaining the manuscript’s contribution to agribusiness and social science research.

Before submission, authors should confirm that their manuscript meets the following requirements.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.
